Highlights from Days 1 & 2—

Under a hot morning sun, Robert, Ray, Mary, Ken and Gabe set out on their journey from the Anacostia Community Boathouse in Washington, DC. Since Ray will be reporting on the trip for the New York Times this year, the group was accompanied by a Times photographer who rode in one of AWS's pontoon boats as far as Hains Point at the confluence of the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers. Later the same morning, Byron Bradley and his 12 year old son, Hopi set out to catch up with the main group of paddlers from Bladensburg Waterfront Park in Maryland. They would not catch up with Robert and the others until Day 2 of the trip.

After a warm night spent at camp in Chapman Forest, the paddlers launched from Chapman Pt. on their way to Clifton Beach. Before the end of Day 2, Byron and Hopi caught up with Robert and the others, swelling their number to 7 paddlers. The night was spent camping at Clifton Beach.
